FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BONGO BEAT RECORDS LAUNCHES MP3 MUSIC STORE IN SECOND LIFE

Making their entire catalog available for purchase from inside Second Life, Bongo Beat Records has become the first record label to sell music in the popular virtual world. Bongo Beat worked with a team from TransStellar Inc. to create the store and assist with bringing the label's artists into the virtual environment. The Bongo Beat roster includes Johnny Dowd, Jeb Loy Nichols, Andy Creeggan (Barenaked Ladies), Ann Mortifee, Bardi Johannsson (Bang Gang) and others, in addition to archival recordings by Katrina & The Waves, and Meryn Cadell; encompassing Americana, world-fusion, electronic, hard rock, punk, acid jazz and more.

Music store songs can be purchased using "Linden Dollars" (the Second Life virtual currency) at a cost of 250L per song which equates to about 90 cents USD. The songs are delivered to the buyer through an automatic web connection immediately after the user pays the virtual world "vendor" inside Second Life.

Songs are delivered as 320kbps full quality, DRM-free, MP3 music files, allowing for unrestricted listening and transferring to media players like the iPod or burning to CD to listen in the car. Songs can also be played on the computer directly.

Additionally, Bongo Beat sponsors the "Aroha Island" meeting location where people are becoming exposed to the artists through live "crossover" concerts where musicians perform in real world venues while at the same time the music and video is displayed in the Second Life virtual world.

"Second Life is no different than any other territory we market to worldwide, " says Bongo Beat owner Ralph Alfonso. "Except that the five million people here can fly and may not necessarily be human. But they take their music seriously and will help us develop methods and expertise that we can offer to potential partners to bring more music into Second Life."
